If it does not exist -- and I have been looking -- perhaps there are regional associations we could approach.
The purpose: Share maritime resources, of course. Build collections. Build a repository infrastructure for hosting original, born-digital content. Share in the responsibility of identifying useful content and marking it up with meta-data. Share in digitization of printed materials. Share in cataloging. Establish a strong interlibrary loan and document delivery consortium. Use collective bargaining power to make better purchases.
I have secured several hostnames and my staff is building up a contacts lists in a CRM.
Next steps? Get our new, scalable library repository launched. Begin a crowd-sourced bookmarking project (defined in a previous post), launch a campaign.
